Amanpreet Singh Gill, a former India U-19 pace bowler who was also part of Punjab cricket’s core, died at the age of 36 in Chandigarh on Wednesday. He represented India Under-19s, played for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural IPL season, and later served on Punjab’s senior selection committee. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Gill’s passing drew tributes from across the cricketing fraternity, with Virat Kohli posting that he was “shocked and saddened to hear about Amanpreet Gill’s passing,” sending prayers and strength to his family and loved ones, and signing off with “Rest in peace. Om Shanti.” Yuvraj Singh echoed similar sentiments, recalling a dressing-room friendship and calling Gill a quiet, hardworking cricketer who loved the game. The Punjab Cricket Association also expressed sorrow, offering condolences and praying for eternal peace for the departed.
