Telangana High Court refuses interim protection from arrest for Bageerath in a POCSO case, extending a tense legal battle as bail arguments unfold late into the night.
Hyderabad, Telangana High Court on Friday night did not grant any interim protection from arrest to Bageerath, the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in a POCSO case. Justice T Madhavi Devi resumed hearing the interim anticipatory bail petition and indicated she was not inclined to grant an interim order at this stage. The hearing went on until nearly midnight, with orders expected on the next vacation court day. The counsel for Bageerath argued that the court has an inherent power to grant interim bail pending final disposal of the bail application. He also noted that the victim’s mother claimed her daughter had entered into a relationship with the accused in 2025 and that there was cordial interaction between them. Opposing relief, the victim’s counsel asserted concerns about tampering with evidence, given that the father of the accused is an influential figure. Earlier, the court had cautioned about a smear campaign on social media and said it would not hear the case if the victim’s counsel had reservations about arguing before the judge. The hearing reflected a tense clash over rights, process, and the influence of power in a case that has drawn significant public attention.
