Market Cap Soars: TCS Leads Top Firms with ₹1.54 Lakh Crore Jump!
Indian equity markets rallied last week! Five of the top 10 firms saw their market cap jump by ₹1.54 lakh crore, with TCS as the biggest winner. Dive into the details!
Indian equity markets concluded last week on a robust note, as the combined market valuation of five of the top-10 most valued firms soared by an impressive ₹1.54 lakh crore. This significant uplift comes despite lingering geopolitical tensions, elevated crude oil prices, and persistent uncertainty surrounding global interest rates, showcasing the resilience of domestic economic fundamentals.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged as the undisputed leader, adding a massive ₹72,072.3 crore to its market valuation. This boost pushed its total market cap to ₹8,20,672.70 crore. The IT major's strong performance was bolstered by a 4.61 percent increase in its June-quarter net profit, reaching ₹13,349 crore, and optimistic guidance for improving demand in the ongoing quarter, particularly as impacts from the West Asia crisis begin to subside.
Other major players also contributed to the market's positive momentum. ICICI Bank saw its valuation surge by ₹29,062.06 crore, bringing its total to ₹10,34,441.77 crore. Reliance Industries, a market heavyweight, added ₹23,884.93 crore, reaching a valuation of ₹17,95,091.26 crore. Bajaj Finance and State Bank of India also posted healthy gains, increasing their valuations by ₹21,946.5 crore and ₹7,338.34 crore, respectively.
While many celebrated gains, some firms faced a decline in their market capitalisation. Larsen & Toubro saw an erosion of ₹18,097.72 crore, and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) declined by ₹12,080.75 crore. Bharti Airtel also experienced a dip in its valuation. HDFC Bank, despite being a top-valued firm, also faced declines alongside Hindustan Unilever.
The overall sentiment was buoyed by encouraging Q1 FY27 earnings reports from the IT sector, particularly TCS, which closed with nearly 10 percent weekly gains. Renewed buying interest in financial stocks further fueled the market's recovery, demonstrating investor confidence in key sectors. The BSE Sensex climbed 582.06 points, or 0.75 percent, and the NSE Nifty went up by 127.4 points, or 0.52 percent, underscoring the market's strong performance.
