UK Police Extend Detention: Manchester Terror Suspects Quizzed Over Jewish Community Plot
Detectives have secured extra time to question two men arrested in Manchester suspected of plotting against the Jewish community. Stay updated on this critical investigation.
Detectives in the UK have been granted an additional week to interrogate two men apprehended in connection with an alleged plot targeting Manchester's Jewish community. The suspects, both in their 30s, were initially arrested on September 20, just hours before Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar when thousands gather in synagogues. This extension permits their detention until October 4 as the investigation continues.
The arrests took place in Manchester's Northern Quarter under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Sources close to the investigation have indicated that the suspected plot was deemed "fairly imminent" and had advanced into its later stages of planning. The Metropolitan Police, overseeing the complex inquiry, confirmed that their work is ongoing, with multiple lines of enquiry being actively pursued.
In addition to the arrests, police conducted searches at properties located on Epworth Street in Liverpool and Lancaster Road in Salford. The Community Security Trust, an organisation dedicated to the safety of Jewish communities across the UK, expressed profound concern over the alleged plot.
A spokesperson described the situation as "utterly chilling," particularly given its proximity to the anniversary of a terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue last year, serving as a stark reminder of the persistent threat faced by Jewish communities today.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full scope of this serious alleged conspiracy.
