The steep price increase is a direct consequence of ongoing blockades that have effectively cut off supply routes to affected districts, particularly Kangpokpi. This has resulted in a complete absence of LPG cylinder deliveries, forcing families to face unimaginable hardships in accessing basic cooking fuel.
The crisis extends beyond cooking gas. The region has witnessed a significant escalation in violence, with at least 40 lives lost since President’s Rule was revoked in February. The volatile situation is further highlighted by reports of key political figures, including a Kangpokpi MLA and the Deputy Chief Minister, being blocked from travelling to Imphal, underscoring the deep-seated instability.
The blockade has also led to a severe spike in the prices of other crucial commodities such as rice and petrol. Residents are struggling to afford even the most basic necessities, painting a grim picture of daily life under these challenging circumstances.
