London Soho car crash: Woman charged with attempted murder
A 29-year-old woman faces serious charges after a car struck pedestrians in central London, leaving several injured.
A 29-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a car hit pedestrians in central London in the early hours of Sunday. The suspect, Gabrielle Carrington of Broadfield Road, Manchester, was also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm and drink-driving. The incident took place on Argyll Street, near Oxford Circus, at about 04:30 BST, and authorities say it is not being treated as terrorism-related.
Three people were injured. A 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, while a man in his 50s sustained life-changing injuries. A third woman, in her 30s, was treated for minor injuries at the scene or hospital. Carrington has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
Police urged the public not to share graphic footage circulating online out of respect for the victims and to avoid prejudicing the ongoing investigation. The Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, with investigators seeking any witnesses who may have information.
