CISF heroes honoured for protecting Uri hydro projects during Operation Sindoor

The Uri hydroelectric installations faced intense pressure as cross-LoC tensions surged following Operation Sindoor in May 2025. The Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force conferred the DG’s disc on 19 personnel for exceptional operational performance in safeguarding Uri-I and Uri-II, located just 8-10 kilometres from the Line of Control. The citation notes how the team neutralised hostile drones targeting the installations and ensured the safety of armoury stockpiles by swiftly redistributing weapons to prevent potential destruction.

With shells striking near residential blocks, CISF units conducted door-to-door evacuations of around 250 civilians, including NHPC staff and their families, ensuring no loss of life. Even under danger, the force reinforced bunkers, maintained communications via POLNET and satellite links, and coordinated emergency assistance for those evacuated.

The operation was led by Commandant Ravi Yadav, Deputy Commandant, and involved meticulous planning to keep the Uri-I and Uri-II complex operational in a volatile theatre near the LoC. The DG emphasised that the personnel upheld the highest traditions of the Force, displaying rare courage under fire and unwavering commitment to national security.

Uri, situated on the Jhelum river in Baramulla district, has long been a strategic asset. The incident highlights the CISF’s crucial role in counter-terrorist security for vital infrastructure and its readiness to protect civilians during escalations. The recipients of the DG’s disc exemplify frontline resilience in the region’s challenging security landscape.
