Hollywood is abuzz with the release of the trailer for "Ebenezer," an upcoming film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, "A Christmas Carol." The movie marks a significant milestone for actor Johnny Depp, as it is his first major Hollywood role since his highly publicized 2022 trial against Amber Heard.
Paramount Pictures unveiled the trailer on Friday, July 24, giving audiences a glimpse into Ti West’s dark reimagination of the beloved tale. Depp takes on the titular role of Ebenezer Scrooge, portrayed as an ill-tempered miser who rejects the festive spirit of Christmas and harbors disdain for those who celebrate it. The trailer hints at the haunting by Christmas spirits that eventually leads to Scrooge’s transformation.
Directed by Ti West, known for his work on "Pearl" and "Maxxxine," and with a screenplay penned by Nathaniel Halpern, "Ebenezer" promises a fresh, darker take on Dickens’ timeless story. The narrative explores the essential humanity represented in "A Christmas Carol," despite its grim presentation.
