Featuring Mark Zuckerberg on stage with new Ray-Bans that had a heads-up display and a neural wristband that promised to convert hand gestures into digital commands, Meta Connect 2025 had all the makings of a futuristic flex. But it was a glitch in one of the demos, not the slick design or its sci-fi features, that stole the show.
Currently, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In an attempt to demonstrate the wristband during a live demonstration, Zuckerberg messaged Andrew Bosworth, the chief technology officer of Meta. The part that worked. But the system completely abandoned him when he tried the grand finale, which involved making a video call with a few delicate hand gestures.
The audience is seen shifting in their seats and whispering "oh my God" in uncertainty, Zuckerberg making several awkward repetitions of the same gesture, and an unresponsive pair of smart glasses.
In order to save the demo, Bosworth eventually had to go on stage himself. "I said," he said,
“The WiFi is brutal,” and added, “I promise you, no one is more upset about this than I am. Because now my team has to go debug, why this didn’t work on the stage.”
On the other hand, social media, of course, had a field day. People began responding with humor as videos of Zuckerberg's silent battle began to circulate like wildfire. A user said,
