Delhi's air turns severe as GRAP-IV restrictions return

Delhi-NCR's air quality has slipped into the severe category, prompting the reimposition of GRAP-IV restrictions. The move follows the earlier GRAP-III measures and expands action across sectors to curb the smog that blankets the region.
Under Stage IV, older vehicles such as BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel models are banned from plying, with exemptions for essential services. Existing GRAP measures, including restrictions on construction activities and certain industrial emissions, remain in effect.
The current pollution surge comes alongside cold conditions and dense morning fog, which trap pollutants close to the ground and reduce visibility in the city.
Authorities are urging residents to check air quality reports, limit outdoor activity, wear masks when outdoors, and follow advisory instructions. Officials say enforcement will be stepped up as the region seeks to bring AQI back from the danger zone.
