Liverpool is celebrating today as childhood best friends Jo Diop and Kush Burman have been crowned the winners of Race Across the World series six. The 19-year-old duo crossed the finish line first after an epic 12,000-kilometer journey that took them from the sunny streets of Palermo, Sicily, all the way to the frozen landscapes of Hatgal in northern Mongolia.

The pair travelled along the ancient Silk Road, navigating through Greece, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. In a nail-biting finale, they fended off tough competition from three other finalist teams, including siblings Harrison and Katie from Manchester and father-daughter duo Molly and Andrew from Northern Ireland. Despite the grueling trek across the Khangai Mountains, Jo and Kush managed to reach the shores of Lake Khövsgöl—the Blue Pearl of Mongolia—three hours ahead of their nearest rivals.

Upon reaching the finish line, an ecstatic Kush shouted, "Big up Scousers!" while Jo confirmed it was a historic "first win for Liverpool" for the show. The win comes with a life-changing £20,000 cash prize, which the boys already have big plans for. Kush intends to help his mother get onto the property ladder, while Jo is looking forward to traveling to Senegal to connect with his roots and learn more about his heritage.

Reflecting on their journey, the boys admitted the experience has changed their perspective on life.
