Bengaluru Polio Drive Reaches 95% Coverage on Day One
Bengaluru kicks off the Pulse Polio drive with 95% coverage on day one, vaccinating over 10.7 lakh children across five corporations.
On day one of the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme, Bengaluru saw a robust start as health workers swung into action across five city corporations: Bengaluru Central, West, East, South, and North. In all, more than 10.77 lakh children were vaccinated out of a target of 11,34,988, achieving an overall coverage of about 95%. The launch, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, showcased a mix of strategies: booth-based immunisation, door-to-door visits, and transit vaccination at busy public points.
Across the five corporations, performance ranged from 94% to 98%. Bengaluru East recorded the highest coverage at around 98%, while other zones stayed within a close band around the mark. Officials credited the strong start to coordinated grassroots outreach, active community participation, and the use of transit vaccination to reach children who might miss a clinic visit. Transit points alone registered over 1.04 lakh children receiving oral polio drops.
A total of 66,798 vials of oral polio vaccine were administered across the city by end of day one. Health teams are aiming to sustain the momentum through continued booth, door-to-door, and transit vaccinations in the days ahead, while urging parents to bring children under five for immunisation. The drive is a key pillar of Bengaluru's public health push to close immunity gaps and safeguard the youngest residents against polio.
Polio vaccination campaigns remain a cornerstone of the region’s public health strategy, with Bengaluru’s drive aligning with broader state efforts to boost coverage and protect children from preventable diseases.
