Security forces launched a search operation after a drone, suspected to be from Pakistan, was spotted along the International Border in Samba district. The flying object hovered briefly over Indian territory near Chillyari village before returning toward Pakistan, officials said. A team from local police and security agencies conducted searches in the village and surrounding areas to rule out any airdrops of weapons or narcotics and to monitor the IB corridor.
This wasn't the first sighting: on Friday, January 30, a drone suspected to have originated in Pakistan briefly hovered over Indian soil in Ratanpur village in the Ramgarh sector, prompting fresh checks and heightened surveillance along the border. In response to the increased activity, internet services were suspended in parts of Kishtwar as anti-terror operations intensified.
Security forces have been conducting ongoing sweeps along the IB and have re-established contact with militants in Kishtwar, according to Army sources. The objective remains to intercept any cross-border movement and deter attempts to push arms or contraband across the border. Officials stressed that residents should stay calm and report any unusual activity while security operations continue along the Samba belt.
There was no immediate information on casualties or arrests, but authorities described the incidents as serious reminders of the volatile border situation and the need for persistent vigilance by security agencies and local communities.
