BJP Dominates Political Donations as ADR Reveals FY25 Surge
New ADR analysis shows BJP receiving over ₹6,000 crore in FY2024-25, Delhi leads state donations, total funding up 161% to ₹6,648 crore.
A new analysis of donations to national political parties for FY2024-25 reveals a dramatic surge in funding, with total declared donations rising to ₹6,648.563 crore from 11,343 contributions, up 161% from the previous year. The BJP alone accounted for ₹6,074.015 crore from 5,522 donations, more than ten times the combined total of all other national parties for the same period. Almost 60% of the funds reported come from sources that parties categorize as unknown, highlighting transparency challenges in campaign finance.
State-wise, Delhi leads the donations ledger with ₹2,639.481 crore contributed to national parties in FY25, followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat as notable contributors. The pattern of large gifts is underscored by the distribution of donations above ₹20,000: the BJP received over 91% of such declared sums, underscoring its fundraising dominance. The year-on-year picture shows a 171% rise in BJP donations from FY23-24 to FY24-25. By comparison, Congress declared ₹517.394 crore, AAP ₹27.044 crore, and NPEP ₹1.943 crore. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) reported no donations above ₹20,000 in FY25, continuing a multi-year trend.
Taken together, the numbers sketch a fundraising landscape where corporate funding plays a central role, and unknown sources comprise a substantial portion of declared funds. The ADR’s focus on donations above ₹20,000 highlights both the scale of financial backing and ongoing questions about donor disclosure and influence in national politics.
