Days after a shocking video went viral, Aishwarya, daughter of Karnataka BJP MLA Suresh Gowda, has been booked for allegedly assaulting a woman police sub-inspector, Savitha B. Patil, at a temple in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district. The incident, which reportedly occurred on August 12 during Bhimana Amavasya rituals at the Aarti Ukkada temple, shows a heated altercation that turned physical.
The CCTV footage, now widely circulated, clearly depicts Ms. Aishwarya slapping Ms. Savitha B. Patil, who was on duty at the temple. The police officer immediately retaliated, striking back before bystanders quickly intervened to separate the two. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from an an argument over Ms. Aishwarya's attempt to enter the temple's sanctum sanctorum, where Ms. Patil was stationed to manage crowd entry.
According to a police official at the Kyathanahalli police station, an FIR has been registered against Ms. Aishwarya based on a complaint filed by Ms. Patil. Ms. Aishwarya, who is married to a police officer herself, is facing charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) for allegedly verbally abusing and assaulting an officer while on duty. While Ms. Aishwarya has also lodged a counter-complaint, police sources indicate it is currently under examination.
Following the incident, MLA Suresh Gowda publicly apologized for his daughter's conduct, and a departmental inquiry has been called for. This event has sparked widespread discussion online, raising questions about VIP culture and accountability, particularly when those in positions of power or their family members are involved in altercations with law enforcement.
