Badminton star PV Sindhu found herself stranded in Dubai after an explosion near the area where she and her Indonesian coach were staying triggered flight suspensions amid escalating West Asia tensions. The incident occurred as she prepared for the All England Open Badminton Championships starting March 3. Sindhu and her coach, Irwansyah Adi Pratama, were moved to a secure location with the airport staff and Dubai authorities facilitating their safety.

In a post on X, she described the moment as tense and scary, noting that the coach had to quickly run from smoke and debris as the area near their stay was affected. She later confirmed that they are safe now and resting in a more secure area while officials work to stabilise the situation.

The disruption comes as authorities issued an urgent safety advisory for flights in West Asia, with DGCA guidance valid until March 2. Despite the uncertainty, Sindhu thanked the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the Indian High Commission in Dubai for their constant assistance in keeping her and her team safe. She remains focused on awaiting a clearer travel status as the region navigates the crisis.

Sources say the Badminton World Federation is closely monitoring the situation to prioritise player safety, and teams are awaiting updates on possible departures for England when airspace reopens.
