Nvidia and OpenAI ink India partnerships at AI Impact Summit
Nvidia and OpenAI forge ties with Indian industry and academia to boost AI infrastructure, education, and research at the AI Impact Summit.
At the AI Impact Summit, Nvidia and OpenAI announced major partnerships with Indian players to accelerate AI adoption and build domestic capabilities. The collaborations signal a push to host more workloads locally and nurture a homegrown AI workforce that can train, fine-tune, and deploy intelligence within India.
Nvidia said it will team up with three Indian firms — Yotta, L&T, and E2E Networks — to build sovereign AI infrastructure. The plan includes data centers dedicated to model training, fine-tuning, and high-scale inference, with capacity set aside for model builders, startups, researchers, and enterprises to develop AI solutions in India. Nvidia will grant access to Nemotron, its family of open-source LLMs, and NeMo, a software suite for managing AI agents, to support the local ecosystem.
On the education and research front, OpenAI has signed partnerships with multiple universities — IIT-Delhi, IIM-Ahmedabad, AIIMS New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, and Pearl Academy. OpenAI India’s head of education says embedding AI tools, training, and research into campus infrastructure will equip students with the skills needed to thrive in a world powered by AI. OpenAI also noted that around one lakh students and staff will benefit from these collaborations, and it is expanding with ed-tech platforms PhysicsWallah, upGrad, and HCL GUVI to take AI capabilities beyond campuses for structured courses and practical ChatGPT use cases.
Industry voices at the summit emphasized the need for robust AI infrastructure investment. Nvidia executive Shanker Trivedi urged India to boost funding beyond current levels and to align with global standards. Observers note that such momentum comes as part of India’s broader AI push, including policy initiatives to accelerate the build-out of AI capacity, training facilities, and manufacturing related to intelligent systems.
Together, these announcements mark a significant step in India’s plan to host AI workloads domestically, cultivate a skilled AI workforce, and attract global players to establish AI factories and data centers in the country.
