UP Congress Gets New Chief: Aradhana Misra Mona to Lead Alliance Talks!
Aradhana Misra Mona appointed new UP Congress Chief, with Imran Masood as Working President. This strategic move aims to revive the Brahmin-Muslim-Dalit coalition ahead of crucial assembly elections.
The Congress party has announced significant leadership changes in Uttar Pradesh, appointing Aradhana Misra Mona as the new president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. This crucial decision, made on Friday (October 2, 2026), comes just months before the upcoming Assembly polls and is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party's presence in the politically vital state.
Ms. Mona, a three-time MLA representing the Rampur Khas Assembly seat in Pratapgarh district, takes over from Ajay Rai, who served as the State head for over three years. She is the daughter of veteran party leader and Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, an influential figure within the Brahmin community who had won the Rampur Khas seat eight times.
Alongside Ms. Mona's appointment, Imran Masood, the Lok Sabha member from Saharanpur, has been named the Working President. Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad have also been appointed as Senior Vice-Presidents, further bolstering the party's leadership structure in the state.
The Congress President also approved Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the new Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Uttar Pradesh.
Political analysts view these appointments as a clear attempt by the Congress to resurrect its traditional social coalition of Brahmin, Muslim, and Dalit communities. Ms. Mona and Mr. Masood represent the Brahmin and Muslim communities, respectively, both holding significant influence.
The party's state-in-charge is also from a Scheduled Caste background, completing the intended social mosaic.
The appointment is a clear signal that the party is eyeing to regain its old social coalition, the Brahmin-Muslim-Dalit alliance, which used to give it political dividend for decades,
remarked Asad Rizvi, a Lucknow-based political analyst. He further highlighted the cordial relationship shared by Ms.
Misra and her father with the Samajwadi Party, suggesting this could significantly aid in smooth seat-sharing negotiations and the overall functioning of the SP-Congress alliance.
These changes set the stage for an intriguing political battle in the upcoming assembly elections.
