America's most notoriously irreverent animated series, South Park, is set to undergo a significant, and characteristically satirical, name change for its upcoming 29th season. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced that the show will now be known as "South America," a move that serves as a thinly veiled, yet biting, commentary on former US President Donald Trump's past declarations regarding geographical names.

The announcement, which included a photo of the iconic South Park sign with "America" scrawled over the original name, directly references Trump's previous desire to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" and the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America." He had reportedly even signed an executive order to that effect for Lake Ontario in August. The show's creators humorously stated their inspiration came from the "bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google," adding another layer of satire to the announcement.

Parker and Stone, known for their quick wit and ability to lampoon current events, continue to push boundaries, ensuring that South Park remains relevant in the ever-changing political and social landscape. Their statement also extended thanks to their parent company, Paramount Skydance, following the approval of its $111 billion merger with Warner Bros in June.
