The Merseyside giants are reportedly close to finalising a loan deal for the highly-rated Barcelona defender, which includes an option to make the move permanent. The 27-year-old Uruguayan international, a former captain for Barcelona, is expected to undergo a medical examination on Sunday, paving the way for him to become manager Andoni Iraola’s second summer acquisition, following the earlier signing of winger Victor Munoz.
