Centre, Nagaland and ENPO Sign FNTA Pact to Empower Eastern Nagaland
Centre, Nagaland government, and ENPO sign the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority pact, promising funding and development for Eastern Nagaland’s six districts.
In a landmark political move, the Centre, the Nagaland government, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) signed a tripartite agreement to create the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, or FNTA. The authority is designed to address the long-standing demands of Eastern Nagaland by channeling resources into a dedicated governance framework for the region’s six eastern districts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Ministry of Home Affairs will fund the new body and oversee development initiatives to accelerate progress on the ground.
The signing ceremony was attended by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, signaling broad political backing for the plan. Supporters say the FNTA would empower local communities while coordinating with state and central agencies. By delineating authority over development projects and funding priorities, the arrangement aims to bridge persistent gaps in infrastructure, health, education, and connectivity that have long defined the region’s development trajectory.
Officials frame the pact as a peace-building step that pairs political significance with tangible delivery. While the detailed powers, boundaries, and financial mechanisms of the FNTA are to be worked out, the agreement marks a milestone in the broader effort to bring lasting peace and development to the Northeast.
