Kalmaegi floods central Vietnam and devastates parts of the Philippines, leaving hundreds missing and triggering mass power outages as rescue efforts ramp up.
Typhoon Kalmaegi pounded the Philippines and central Vietnam with destructive winds and heavy rainfall, leaving dozens dead and triggering widespread damage. In the Philippines, authorities reported at least 188 deaths as the storm moved inland after making landfall, while rescue teams struggled to locate hundreds of missing people. In Vietnam, the disaster management agency said at least five people had died and about 2,800 homes were damaged as Kalmaegi lashed central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri with up to 200 millimetres of rain in some areas. Rising river levels threatened flash floods and landslides, complicating relief efforts and raising concerns for nearby communities.
