AP Budget Balances Welfare and Growth, CII-AP Hails Visakhapatnam Push
Budget blends welfare with development, earmarking huge investments for Visakhapatnam and key sectors like health, education, farming and infrastructure.
The Andhra Pradesh budget presented recently has been described as a balanced roadmap that pairs welfare commitments with long-term development goals. Industry body CII-AP praised the plan, noting that it creates a positive ecosystem for industry through infrastructure development, strengthened logistics, and the creation of regional economic clusters. The message is clear: welfare and growth can travel in tandem, with capital expenditure acting as an investment multiplier to attract private investment, spur services sector growth, and boost employment.
A centerpiece of the budget is the Visakhapatnam Economic Region, backed by a substantial allocation of ₹28,000 crore designed to transform north Andhra into a major hub for industrial activity, information technology, maritime services, and broader growth. Alongside this, the budget assigns ₹19,306 crore to the health sector, and ₹32,308 crore to school education, signaling a strong emphasis on human capital development through scholarships and skill development programs. An additional ₹20,000 per farmer will be provided annually to 46.86 lakh farmers, strengthening farm income security and aiming to ease distress in rural communities.
Other notable allocations include ₹13,546 crore for development of roads, ports and airports in Vizianagaram, seen in the context of infrastructure projects such as the Bhogapuram international airport. The budget, according to supporters, also aims to strike a balance between developing Amaravati and sustaining large-scale welfare spending, treating both as parallel engines of growth. This approach aligns with the broader goal of creating a more investment-friendly environment while ensuring social protection and opportunities for the next generation.
Political voices welcomed the emphasis on development and welfare, with one JSP leader noting that the allocation patterns would benefit Vizianagaram district and other parts of the state as major infrastructure initiatives move forward. The overall tone suggests a government intent on delivering both immediate relief and long-term prosperity for the state’s five crore people, with capital expenditure used strategically to unlock private investment and regional growth.
