Yogi Adityanath's Partition Claim Ignites Row: "Modi/Patel Would've Saved India"
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath sparks debate, claiming a Modi or Patel-led India in 1947 would have prevented Partition's horrors. He slams Congress for the division and its aftermath.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ignited a fresh political controversy, asserting that India would not have faced the horrors of Partition in 1947 had Prime Minister Narendra Modi or a leader like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel been at the helm. Adityanath made these strong claims during a Lucknow event commemorating 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', directly blaming the Congress party for the country's division and the subsequent massacres.
Addressing the gathering, Adityanath stated, "If a person like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the prime minister at that time, nobody would have been able to disintegrate India." He further added, "The country had to pay a heavy price for the cowardice of these Congress members, a character you all witnessed during the CAA protests." The BJP leader accused Congress of being "extra-restless for power" and betraying the trust of the nation, claiming they treated the country as their personal property and a family legacy.
Adityanath's allegations extended to the territorial concessions made during Partition. He claimed that Hindu-dominated Sindh and Sindhi-dominated areas were forcibly handed over to Pakistan, a share it never even requested. Similarly, he asserted that Punjabi-dominated Punjab was given away, and all Hindu villages in Bengali-dominated Bengal were forcibly transferred to Bangladesh. According to Adityanath, these "shameful acts" were committed by the Congress.
He also criticized the Congress for its alleged silence on attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh, suggesting their inaction stemmed from a fear of losing their vote bank. "To them, the murder of Dalit Hindus holds no significance; what matters is their own vote bank," he remarked. The Chief Minister concluded by stating that internal strife, divisions based on caste, region, and language ultimately made the country vulnerable and led to its "slavery."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also observed 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', a commemoration initiated by his government in 2021. He paid tribute to all those who lost their lives during the tragic events of Partition, recalling their courage and resilience.
