Emma Heming Willis has revealed that Bruce Willis is not aware of his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. The progression followed his 2022 retirement after an aphasia diagnosis, with the family later confirming the condition had advanced to FTD. Heming Willis explained that Bruce experiences anosognosia, a neurological condition in which the brain cannot recognize its own decline, meaning he never connected the dots that he has the disease—and she says she is glad he remains unaware.
FTD typically affects behavior, personality, and language, unlike Alzheimer's, which often targets memory. Heming Willis notes that Bruce can still recognize her and their two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, as well as his three adult daughters with ex-wife Demi Moore. He remains present in his body and connects with his family in a way that is unique but meaningful.
The couple met at a Los Angeles gym in the mid-2000s and married in 2009 in a ceremony at their home in Turks and Caicos. Emma says the news is a reminder that dementia can progress in private ways, affecting families behind closed doors, and underscores the importance of awareness and support.
