2030 Winter Olympics rocked by president's resignation! 🏔️

The 2030 Winter Olympics organizing committee is facing fresh scrutiny after its president, Edgar Grospiron, announced his resignation just 18 months into his tenure. His departure, formalized at an executive board meeting on Thursday, comes amidst what Grospiron himself described as "months of tension" behind the scenes. The news has sparked renewed concerns about the governance of the highly anticipated Games set to take place in the French Alps.

Grospiron, the 1992 Olympic moguls champion, revealed on LinkedIn that he concluded "the conditions are not met for me to continue this." The 2030 French Alps executive board acknowledged his decision, stating it was a

deliberate, organised and fully assumed transition, taken in the interests of the project and its governance,

aimed at enabling the organization to move into a new operational phase.

This high-profile exit is not an isolated incident. It follows just six months after chief executive Cyril Linette stepped down, citing "insurmountable disagreements" with Grospiron. Other key figures, including chief operating officer Anne Murac and communications director Arthur Richer, have also left the project, adding to the perception of internal turmoil.

Vincent Roberti was appointed as Linette's successor in May, hoping to bring stability.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a statement acknowledging Grospiron's decision and thanking him

for his crucial work in laying the foundations for the success of the Alpes 2030 Games.

The IOC affirmed its commitment to working closely with the Organizing Committee to build upon the groundwork laid. Despite the series of significant departures, officials maintain that the bid for the Winter Olympics is continuing to move forward, striving to reassure stakeholders amidst the recent challenges.
