Storm Alerts Buzz Delhi-NCR: Relief From Heat as Heavy Rain Lashes North India

Residents across Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh were startled by a loud buzzing on their smartphones today as the government’s emergency cell broadcast system sent out an 'Extremely Severe Alert.' The notification warned of imminent thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain, advising everyone to stay indoors and take immediate precautions. This sudden shift comes after weeks of grueling heat, with cloudy skies finally bringing a much-needed dip in temperatures across northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued wet weather for several regions. In Himachal Pradesh, a wet spell is expected to last until June 4, with thunderstorm warnings issued for ten districts. Similarly, parts of Punjab and Uttarakhand are also bracing for rain. While the rain is a welcome break for many, the intensity of the winds and the possibility of hailstorms have officials on high alert to ensure public safety during these turbulent conditions.

Down south, the intense heatwave gripping Andhra Pradesh is also expected to ease starting May 31. While some districts might still see temperatures hovering near 45°C on Saturday, rain and strong winds are predicted for South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema over the weekend. Meanwhile, weather experts are keeping a close eye on the monsoon, with early flags being raised about potentially below-normal rainfall this year. For now, the focus remains on the immediate storm alerts and the cooling effect of the current showers.
