Labrinth will not be involved in Euphoria's third season, HBO has confirmed, a surprising turn after he helped shape the score and songs for the first two series. The London singer and producer wrote and contributed tracks like Formula, Still Don’t Know My Name and the Grammy-nominated Never Felt So Alone (featuring Billie Eilish) and was initially set to return for the returning show, now joined by Hans Zimmer.
In a highly publicized Instagram post last year, Labrinth criticised the network and Columbia and declared he was out of the project. HBO did not elaborate on the reasons for the change this time. Euphoria creator and writer Sam Levinson told Rolling Stone that he doesn’t know what happened, calling Labrinth an incredible collaborator who helped build the show’s sound while noting Zimmer’s addition to the score.
Labrinth remains scheduled to perform at Coachella this weekend, even as Euphoria season 3 nears its premiere. The third season will feature a new musical chapter with Zimmer steering the soundtrack alongside the showrunners, while Labrinth’s lasting influence on the first two seasons—rooted in a cinematic blend of R&B, electronic, hip-hop and soul—will be missed by many fans.
