Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, widely known as DKS, has issued a stern warning to Tamil Nadu politicians, cautioning them against interfering in the ongoing investigation surrounding the tragic August 15 firing incident in Chamarajanagar.
DKS firmly stated that Karnataka is committed to protecting its territorial sanctity and maintaining its administrative integrity, emphasizing that no other state should overstep its boundaries in this matter. The incident in question, which occurred on August 15, involved a firing where three individuals, identified as Tamils, lost their lives in a forest area near Chamarajanagar.
Karnataka officials have asserted that the state's forest personnel acted in self-defense, returning fire during the confrontation.
This claim is now at the heart of an escalating interstate dispute.
In response to the tragic deaths, leaders in Tamil Nadu have vociferously demanded a high-level probe to ascertain the full facts of the incident.
Furthermore, the Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to provide financial assistance, offering ₹10 lakh each to the families of the three Tamils who were killed. When questioned by a DMK member and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam about who initiated the firing, the Tamil Nadu Forest Minister indicated that the ongoing magisterial inquiry would uncover all the pertinent details.
Karnataka, for its part, has already initiated a magisterial inquiry into the incident to ensure a thorough investigation.
The state has also extended an offer of interim relief to those affected. This tragic event continues to fuel tensions between the two neighbouring states, with both sides calling for justice and clarity while navigating complex interstate dynamics.
