Anthony Albanese Ties the Knot with Jodie Haydon in A Historic In-Office Wedding

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese became the first sitting Australian leader to marry while in office on Saturday, marrying his partner, Jodie Haydon, at the official residence in Canberra.

The reports and the Twitter posts say that close relatives and friends, including Haydon's parents, Bill and Pauline, and Albanese's son Nathan, attended the afternoon ceremony at the Lodge. The Australian prime minister posted a video of himself and his new bride walking down the aisle shortly after the ceremony.

The couple exchanged self-written vows and were married by a celebrant from the Central Coast of New South Wales. Haydon's parents escorted her down the aisle to "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. According to the report, MJ Bale made Albanese's suit, and she wore a dress by Sydney designer Romance Was Born.

The couple's dog, Toto, was the ring bearer, and Haydon's five-year-old niece was the flower girl. Haydon's brother Patrick and Helen Golden, Albanese's cousin, were witnesses. The couple paid for the private wedding, which took place six months after Albanese was re-elected and after the last day of the Australian parliament's 2025 session. Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Finance Minister Katy Gallagher, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, ALP National Secretary Paul Erickson, and Prime Minister's chief of staff Tim Gartrell were among the attendees.

The couple shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight" and left the ceremony to Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)." Haydon and Albanese first connected over five years ago at a public event in Melbourne. On Valentine's Day in 2024, Albanese proposed while wearing a custom engagement ring on the Lodge balcony.

Haydon is the principal patron of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra and has accompanied him to public gatherings, official visits, and election campaigns. After almost 20 years of marriage, Albanese and former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt divorced in 2019.
