Andrew Garfield: Hollywood Burnout? Star Admits He Wants to Quit!
Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield reveals his deep desire to leave the Hollywood spotlight. After back-to-back projects, he dreams of a simpler life. Is a career hiatus on the horizon?
Andrew Garfield, the beloved star of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'Hacksaw Ridge', has candidly opened up about a surprising desire: leaving the demanding world of Hollywood behind. The revelation comes after an incredibly busy year, where the actor has been working non-stop on a string of major projects.
Garfield, 43, confessed in a recent interview with Variety that thoughts of escaping the public eye cross his mind “all the time.” He’s spent nearly a year, an intense 11 to 12 months, juggling back-to-back productions. His packed schedule includes the new Enid Blyton adaptation 'The Magic Faraway Tree', the action-packed period drama 'The Uprising', and Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated Sam Altman biopic, 'Artificial'.
While acknowledging the need to promote his upcoming work, Garfield admits that if he had his way, audiences would simply see his films, and he could retreat to a quieter existence. “If I had my druthers, people would just see them, and I could go whittle wood in the Somerset countryside and think about what the birds might be doing,” he shared, painting a picture of pastoral tranquility far removed from red carpets and movie sets.
The actor also reflected on how his ambitions have evolved. His dreams are now “slightly more earthbound” and less about achievement. He seeks a “certain quality of life,” meaningful relationships with his family and friends, and a strong connection with himself, moving towards more philosophical and existential pursuits.
This isn't the first time Garfield has considered stepping back. In 2022, following the success of 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye', 'tick, tick… BOOM!', and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', he took a career hiatus. At the time, he told Variety he needed to “recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while,” famously describing the industry as a “washing machine.” It seems the sentiment for a break from the relentless pace of stardom continues to resonate with the acclaimed actor.
