AIADMK rebel leader S.P. Velumani on Friday expressed his faction's willingness to hold discussions with party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on intra-party issues, aiming to analyze the reasons behind the recent Assembly election defeat. In a post on his social media handle, Velumani reiterated his group's call for a candid, open review of what went wrong, arguing that unity within the party begins with listening to all voices. He also urged Palaniswami to invite his faction for discussion at least once, rather than moving ahead by pushing people out.
Meanwhile, both AIADMK Legislature Party factions have taken formal steps by presenting petitions to the Speaker, asserting their legitimacy and the continuance of their respective leadership lines. Velumani criticized Palaniswami for acting “arbitrarily” in stitching an alliance for the Assembly poll without adequate consultation, insisting that the party needed outreach to all colleagues after the defeat to chart a more cohesive strategy.
In a counter-narrative, Palaniswami has dismissed claims of ongoing talks with the DMK and reiterated that there were no discussions with rival camps in the run-up to or aftermath of the confidence motion. He noted that rebel MLAs, including some former ministers, voted in favor of the TVK government’s motion of confidence driven by ministerial ambitions, underscoring the complex leadership dynamics at play.
