X Goes Down Globally: Thousands Hit by Major Outage on Monday!
Thousands of X (formerly Twitter) users worldwide faced widespread outages on Monday morning. Learn how the disruption impacted posts, comments, and other major platforms.
Social media platform X, owned by trillionaire Elon Musk, experienced a significant global outage on Monday morning, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the site. The disruption began around 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, with reports quickly surging on DownDetector, a website that tracks digital outages.
At its peak, more than 30,000 users reported problems accessing X by 10 a.m. Eastern Time. Common complaints included posts not loading and comments disappearing, leading to widespread frustration among the user base. Some users even resorted to humor, with one person quipping, "It's the Monday of all Mondays." While reports fell sharply to just a few hundred by 11 a.m., the initial impact was substantial.
DownDetector's data indicated that the X mobile app accounted for 45 percent of reported problems, followed by the feed/timeline (30 percent) and the website (15 percent). The exact cause of the outage on X remains unclear, and requests for comment from the platform have not yet been answered.
Interestingly, the X outage wasn't an isolated incident. Other major digital services also faced issues around the same time. More than 1,800 users reported problems with Microsoft Teams, and over 3,000 flagged issues with Zoom. Cloudflare, a crucial web infrastructure service, also announced it was investigating a "fiber cut" that could be contributing to increased latencies and timeouts for users in North America and Europe. This suggests a broader connectivity issue may have played a role in the day's digital disruptions.
