Nepal Floods: Hope Persists as Rescuers Hunt for Tunnel Survivors

Eight days after devastating flash floods ravaged the Nepal-Tibet border region, a glimmer of hope persists as dedicated rescue teams continue their relentless search for survivors. The focus remains on tunnels along Nepal's Trishuli River, where dozens of workers are believed to be trapped following a catastrophic "glacial collapse" high in the Himalayas.

The disaster has already claimed a tragic toll, with at least 1,200 lives lost and thousands more reported missing.

The immense floodwater and debris unleashed by the glacial collapse have swept through roads and villages, leaving a trail of destruction across the mountainous landscape.

Rescuers are working against the clock and treacherous conditions, employing specialized equipment like rafts and drones to navigate the dangerous terrain and explore the collapsed tunnels. Officials believe that approximately 46 individuals could still be alive within "room-like" structures inside the hydroelectric project tunnels, offering a fragile beacon of hope amidst the widespread devastation.
