Vikram Doraiswami named India's next Ambassador to China
Senior diplomat Vikram Doraiswami appointed India's ambassador to China, as bilateral talks with Beijing continue and he transitions from the UK post.
India has appointed Vikram Doraiswami, a seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer, as India's next Ambassador to China. The Ministry of External Affairs announced the appointment, with Doraiswami currently serving as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He is expected to take up his new role shortly, a move that comes as India and China continue ongoing bilateral discussions.
Doraiswami's long career includes a first foreign posting to the then Indian high commission in Hong Kong in May 1994, and he has since held several important overseas assignments. His experience in navigating complex diplomatic terrains is seen as a key asset as New Delhi seeks to maintain constructive dialogue with Beijing from a position of strength.
In a broader diplomatic reshuffle, the government also moved other senior diplomats: P. Kumaran is heading to London, and Pranay Verma will take up a post in Brussels. These moves are part of a larger effort to realign India’s diplomatic postings in response to evolving regional and global issues.
