Odisha CM Joins Chhath Puja, Extends Greetings Across States

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28, 2025 — Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined scores of devotees on the banks of the Kuakhai River in Bhubaneswar to offer Usha Arghya on the final day of Chhath Puja. The ceremony, a key ritual where devotees pay obeisance to the rising Sun, drew participants gathering along rivers and water bodies across the state. Majhi expressed prayers for the prosperity of Odisha, happiness, and peace for all people, noting that the festival stands for social harmony and auspicious lives for everyone.

In a post on X, Majhi extended greetings to the people of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand who reside in Bhubaneswar, underscoring the festival’s bridge-building spirit across communities. The four-day celebration began on October 25 with Nahai Khai and will conclude on October 28, observed on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla, six days after Deepavali, according to traditional timings.

The final and most sacred ritual, the Usha Arghya, is performed at dawn as a thanks-giving to the Sun. Devotees from all walks of life rise early to offer prayers from ghats along rivers and water bodies, a scene that typifies the festival’s emphasis on devotion, gratitude, and social unity. Majhi’s participation highlights the festival’s resonance in Odisha, where political leaders often join citizens in regional cultural observances to reflect a shared cultural heritage.
