Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a firm stance against the rampant issue of exam paper leaks, promising "more strict actions" in response to ongoing protests, particularly concerning the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. His commitment comes at a time when student groups like the CJP are actively protesting, demanding accountability and reform.
In a self-recorded video shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister revealed that the Union Cabinet is set to review a draft Bill. This proposed legislation aims to establish Fast-Track Courts specifically for paper leak cases and impose stringent punishment on offenders. He emphasized that directions have already been given to various departments to facilitate the setup of these specialized courts, signaling a swift governmental response.
The issue has also sparked significant political debate, with the Opposition demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They are calling for a thorough discussion on the NEET paper leak issue during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, highlighting the widespread concern both inside and outside legislative halls.
Addressing the pain caused by these incidents, PM Modi stated, "Friends, I know that paper leaks are not an ordinary matter. For lakhs of students and their parents, it is extremely painful." He noted that in the two and a half months since the leaks, several major steps have been taken, including the arrest of culprits. The Prime Minister also highlighted efforts to ensure students' academic year wasn't wasted, mentioning that re-exams were swiftly arranged for approximately 22 lakh students, with results recently announced.
Further demonstrating the government's resolve, the Delhi High Court has already designated a fast-track court to handle paper leak cases, following the Prime Minister's earlier announcements. PM Modi affirmed, "However, we are not among those who are satisfied with just that. And therefore, today I have issued directions...", reinforcing that the current measures are just the beginning of a broader initiative to tackle this persistent problem.
