Fuel prices are burning a hole in the pocket again! Petrol and diesel prices have seen their fourth hike in less than two weeks, leaving commuters across the country worried. This time, petrol prices have jumped by Rs 2.61 per litre, while diesel has gone up by Rs 2.71 per litre.
The latest increase means that petrol in Delhi has finally crossed the dreaded Rs 100 mark, now sitting at Rs 102.12 per litre. This trend isn't new; we've seen three other hikes recently starting from May 15, following a period of price stability during the state assembly elections. The total hike over the last fortnight has now reached approximately Rs 7.5.
Why is this happening? Experts point towards the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has forced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is vital for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil traffic. With the closure creating a global crisis and crude oil prices climbing since March 2026, state-run oil marketing companies are feeling the heat and passing the costs to consumers to compensate for the pressure.
Mumbai continues to face the highest rates among metros, with petrol now at Rs 111.18 per litre. Kolkata follows closely at Rs 113.47 per litre. In Chennai and Pune, prices have also spiked significantly. It seems the relief from stable prices seen during the election season is officially over as global market pressures take hold.
