CBI Nabs DGCA Official in ₹2.5 Lakh Bribery Case
CBI arrests a DGCA Deputy Director General and a corporate executive in a ₹2.5 lakh bribery case, with investigators widening the probe into approvals at the aviation regulator.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Mudavath Devula, a Deputy Director General (Airworthiness Directorate) at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, headquartered in Delhi, along with Bharat Mathur, senior vice-president of a major corporate group, and a representative of Asteria Aerospace Limited, in an alleged bribery case. The arrests come as investigators file an FIR and probe claims that undue advantage was sought in exchange for expediting approvals and permissions on applications still pending with the DGCA.
Officials allege that the DGCA official demanded a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh to facilitate approvals or remedies in applications pending with the watchdog. Devula, who heads the Airworthiness Directorate at the DGCA, and Mathur, a senior executive, were arrested along with a company linked to the case, as per the FIR.
CBI officials said the probe is in an early stage and that further inquiries and possible additional arrests could follow as investigators comb through communications and financial records.
This case adds to a broader push to curb graft in regulatory sectors and to bolster accountability in aviation safety approvals, signaling a continued focus on integrity within the aviation regulator and its dealings with private firms.
