West Bengal Final SIR Voter List Released: 7.08 Crore Names Ahead of Assembly Elections

The Election Commission of India has released West Bengal’s final SIR-based voter list, confirming 7.08 crore names after a four‑month revision. About 66 lakh entries are marked as deleted or still under adjudication, underscoring ongoing cleanup ahead of the Assembly elections. Voters can check their status online on EC portals or at local election offices to confirm eligibility and correct any discrepancies before the final rolls are sealed.

The SIR exercise has already reshaped the electorate substantially. Draft rolls published in mid-December showed the tally shrinking from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore, with more than 58 lakh names deleted during the first phase of the SIR. District-wise refinements continue as the process moves toward final publication, with updates integrated as duplicates, invalid entries, and other issues are resolved.

In Bankura district, the post‑SIR update highlighted the impact of the revision: about 1.18 lakh names were deleted. Hard copies of the updated rolls have been displayed in districts such as Bankura and Cooch Behar even as online portals and the EC mobile app work toward final synchronization for public access. The aim is transparency and accuracy, giving voters a clear pathway to verify or contest entries.

The EC has set February 28 as the deadline for publishing the final rolls. With the online portals and printed copies reaching districts, voters are urged to verify their status early and report any omissions or misidentifications well before the cut-off. As the state gears up for polls, the final SIR list is a key milestone in ensuring clean, credible voter data and smooth election operations.
