In Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area, a Lamborghini Revuelto plowed into pedestrians and vehicles around 3 p.m. on February 8, 2026, triggering a wave of questions about who was behind the wheel.
On February 12, police announced the arrest of Shivam Mishra, 35, the son of local tobacco baron K.K. Mishra, in connection with the crash that injured several people. He was reportedly undergoing treatment for a claimed medical condition in a Delhi hospital before being brought to Kanpur for a court appearance. Earlier, a man had surrendered claiming he was the driver, but the court rejected that plea after police said they had evidence pointing to Mishra.
From the start, authorities cited CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts suggesting the car was speeding before it struck pedestrians and other vehicles. The Lamborghini Revuelto, valued at over ₹10 crore, was pictured in social media clips being pulled away from the scene by private security personnel and loaded into another SUV.
Mohd Taufeeq, an 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver who was injured, filed a complaint, though his counsel later said Taufeeq was not pursuing legal action. The FIR initially named an “unidentified driver” before being amended to include Mishra as the primary suspect. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said Mishra would be presented in court after treatment.
The case has drawn attention to the role of wealth and influence in high-profile accidents in Kanpur, and investigators say the inquiry is ongoing as they piece together the driver’s exact actions on that Sunday near Ring Wala Chauraha in the Gwaltoli area. The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine responsibility and pursue any additional charges that may apply.
