Odisha Mourns: Singer Abhijit Majumdar Dies at 54
Renowned Odia music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar dies at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after a prolonged illness, leaving Odisha's music scene in grief.
Abhijit Majumdar, a renowned Odia music composer and singer, died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. He was 54. Majumdar was admitted to the hospital on September 4 last year with hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. After prolonged ICU care, he was shifted back to the medicine ward on November 10 for continued treatment. He developed a new onset of fever, treated as per standard protocol, but did not respond and developed refractory septic shock, the hospital bulletin said. The Odia singer suffered a cardiac arrest this morning at 7:43 a.m., and CPR was started as per ACLS protocol. However, he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 a.m. Majumdar had composed music for numerous blockbuster Odia films and lent his voice to many hit songs, earning a large fan following across Odisha. Leaders across the state expressed grief: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said his demise is an irreparable loss to music, cinema, and culture; Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik also offered condolences. According to Hindustan Times, his last rites will be conducted in Cuttack. The music world mourns another giant who shaped Odia cinema, and his passing is framed as a significant blow to Odisha’s cultural landscape.
