Speeding Audi Mows Down Pedestrians in Jaipur, 1 Dead, 16 Injured

A speeding Audi slammed into roadside stalls in Jaipur’s Patrakar Colony late Friday night, killing one person and injuring 16 others as bystanders and onlookers watched in shock. The incident occurred near Kharbas Circle, where more than 50 people were present at the time, according to investigators. The car reportedly began racing with another vehicle before it lost control, hit a road divider, and careened into a row of stalls, police said.

The crash left a trail of destruction across a 30-metre stretch, with the vehicle plowing through vendor stalls, damaging several parked bikes and carts, and finally stopping after hitting a tree about 100 metres away. One occupant of the car was restrained by locals and handed over to police, while the driver and two others managed to flee the scene. The car has since been seized and mobile phones recovered as part of the investigation. The driver was identified as Dinesh Rinwa, a local businessman, and was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Bairwa, a resident of Bhilwara who worked as a helper at a food stall. Among the injured, four were referred to SMS Hospital in critical condition, while others were admitted to Jaipuria Hospital for treatment. The police described the incident as extremely tragic and noted that prompt medical aid was provided to the injured. Authorities asked people to cooperate with investigators as they review footage and gather witness statements.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the tragedy and ordered swift action to ensure proper treatment for the injured. Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited the injured at Jaipuria Hospital and SMS Trauma Centre and stated that doctors were directed to provide the best possible care to all victims.
