Pakistan Vows "Unconditional" Support for Saudi Arabia Amidst Houthi Attacks!

Pakistan has issued a strong declaration of "unconditional" support for Saudi Arabia, vowing to go "to any extent" to defend the Gulf Kingdom. This assertive stance comes amidst escalating tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis, who have reportedly carried out attacks on Saudi territory and asserted control over the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. Lt. Gen.

Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistan Army, emphasized Islamabad's commitment during a recent interview, stating,

Pakistan fully stands with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and physically. And I would like to underscore here the word physically.

He reiterated that Pakistan would respond "to any extent…as asked and required by our Saudi brothers." This commitment is underpinned by the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed last month by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye.

The agreement stipulates that an armed attack on any of the three signatories would be considered an attack on all. Lt. Gen. Chaudhry described this pact as "defensive" and aimed at "collective deterrence," clarifying it holds "no regional aspirations." The general's remarks follow recent incidents, including Saudi authorities' claim of intercepting a Houthi drone south of Mecca, destroyed before entering its prohibited airspace.

The Houthis, however, have denied targeting Mecca or any Islamic holy sites. Pakistan's pledge also highlights its deep-rooted historical and unbreakable bond with Saudi Arabia, particularly concerning the protection of Islam's holiest cities, Haramain Sharifain (Mecca and Medina).

While reaffirming strong ties, Pakistan is also engaging in diplomatic efforts.

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry noted continuous contact with Saudi leadership and consultations with regional governments to seek "a negotiated and peaceful outcome" to the broader crisis.
