Bandi Sanjay Handover: Son Placed with Police for POCSO Inquiry
Union minister Bandi Sanjay says his son surrendered to police through lawyers in a POCSO case, signaling faith in due process amid a week-long manhunt.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay said he handed over his son, Bandi Bageerath, for police inquiry through advocates with respect for the law. In a statement issued late on Saturday, Mr. Sanjay said: “All are equal before the law. All should abide by the rule of law.” He noted that his son was arrested near Narsingi after a week-long manhunt in connection with a POCSO case registered at Petbasheerabad police station in Hyderabad.
“My son is repeatedly claiming innocence,” Mr. Sanjay said, explaining that he had considered handing him over to the police soon after a complaint was lodged. He added, “We consulted lawyers and produced the evidence with us before them. The lawyers, after examining them, said that the case will be quashed and bail will be granted. As a result, a slight delay occurred.” He emphasized his confidence in the judiciary, stating, “I have full faith in the judiciary.”
In a separate development, the High Court denied pre-arrest bail to Bandi Sanjay’s son and reserved its order, a move that adds complexity to the ongoing case and the minister’s stated stance on due process.
The Hindustan Times reported that the case against him was filed under relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act, based on a complaint submitted by the mother of a 17-year-old girl. The report highlights the high-profile nature of the case and the legal gravity surrounding child protection laws in the region.
