PK doubts Rahul Gandhi's Gen-Z pull in Bihar, cites unemployment

Prashant Kishor has sharpened his critique of Rahul Gandhi’s appeal to Bihar’s Gen Z, arguing that the Congress leader’s influence there is limited by his level of engagement and by a perceived gap in understanding the state. He says Bihar’s young voters are not a monolithic bloc but a diverse cohort shaped by local realities—unemployment, rising migration, and the lure of opportunity elsewhere—rather than national slogans.

Kishor contends that calls to protect democracy or accusations of vote theft rarely move the needle with this generation. For many youths, practical concerns about jobs and mobility trump grand rhetoric, and political energy in the state is driven by those daily pressures rather than party loyalty to a national figurehead.

He also casts the Congress as a marginal factor in Bihar’s electoral calculations, noting the party’s footprint appears confined to Seemanchal with limited organization elsewhere. In his view, the party’s absence from most districts makes it unlikely to shape outcome outcomes significantly.

Analysts warn that Gen Z is not a homogeneous group: some segments respond to calls to uphold democratic norms, but many prioritize tangible issues, such as job creation and pathways to migration. Kishor’s assessment underscores a broader trend: Bihar’s campaigns will hinge on locally grounded strategies and sustained engagement rather than aspirational talk from the capital.

As the election approaches, campaigns face the challenge of addressing unemployment and migration head-on, building trust with youths through concrete programs and visible commitment to local concerns rather than high-profile rhetoric.
