Kumar’s resignation is part of a coordinated sequence of events designed to ensure a smooth handover. He will carry out his final official duties, beginning with a tribute at the statue of Babasaheb Dr. BR Ambedkar, followed by his last cabinet meeting and a meeting with the governor to submit his resignation. The process is described as a constitutional requirement, with the chief minister informing colleagues about the cabinet’s dissolution before meeting the governor.
In the meantime, the BJP Legislature Party will meet to elect its leader in the presence of an observer, after which the NDA Legislature Party will endorse the new chief minister at the Bihar Assembly’s Central Hall and formally present the government to the governor. The swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers is scheduled for April 15 at 11:00 am at Raj Bhavan.
Chaudhary, who is currently deputy chief minister and holds the Home portfolio, is viewed as a key OBC leader for the BJP in Bihar. While JD(U) leaders express hope that Nitish Kumar will continue to influence governance, the new arrangement marks the end of his long tenure as the state’s longest-serving leader. Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha signals a strategic shift, with the NDA seeking to steer Bihar’s political direction under Chaudhary’s leadership.
