President Murmu Inaugurates Granth Kutir at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Yesterday, Rashtrapati Bhavan's Granth Kutir was opened by President Droupadi Murmu. There are about 50 manuscripts and 2,300 books in 11 Indian classical languages in the Kutir. Epics, philosophy, linguistics, history, governance, science, devotional literature, and the Indian Constitution are just a few of the many topics covered in the collection. The purpose of creating this Kutir is to raise public awareness of India's rich literary and cultural legacy while encouraging a spirit of unity in diversity.

While addressing the audience present on the occasion, President Murmu added that

“The Granth Kutir forms part of our ongoing effort in Rashtrapati Bhavan towards the preservation and promotion of India’s classical languages.”

While citing the example of the classical languages of India, the President stated that these languages have contributed substantially to the development of modern Indian languages. She has specifically pointed out that knowledge of these subjects has influenced the world, science, yoga, Ayurveda, and literature on these classical languages.

She stressed the importance of popularizing the study and teaching of classical languages in the university curriculum and encouraging young minds to acquire at least one classical language. President Murmu also stressed the importance and requirement of making more books in these languages in libraries to preserve and promote them.

Granth Kutir intends to realise Gyan Bharatam Mission’s goal of digitising, preserving, and sharing India’s vast manuscript legacy. Granth Kutir was developed with the combined efforts of the Indian Government, various State Governments, Universities, Research Institutions, Cultural Institutions, and Individual Donors from across India.
