Air India’s Mumbai-bound Boeing 777 returns to Delhi after a right-engine issue, with 335 passengers safely disembarking as investigators step in.
A Mumbai-bound Air India Boeing 777 turned back to Delhi shortly after takeoff on Monday morning after a technical issue was detected in the right-hand engine. The aircraft, carrying about 335 people, was in the air for roughly an hour before reversing course and making an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The airline confirmed that the crew followed standard operating procedures, and passengers and crew disembarked safely. A DGCA official said the decision to return was prompted by a drop in engine oil pressure; the right engine’s oil pressure fell to zero during flap retraction, prompting an engine shutdown.
The plane is undergoing checks, and ground teams are assisting passengers with alternative arrangements to continue their journey to Mumbai. Investigations will be conducted by a Permanent Investigation Board under DGCA supervision to determine the cause and ensure safety standards remain high.
Air India noted that there was no information indicating abnormal oil consumption in previous flight records, and stressed safety remains the top priority.
