JNU Professor Accused: 11 Students File Sexual Harassment Complaints

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is currently at the center of a serious investigation as eleven students have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against one of its professors. The complaints were officially lodged with the university's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) back in May of this year. According to university sources, the allegations trace back to viva examinations held in the first week of May.

Students claim the professor made inappropriate remarks with sexual connotations during these sessions. The situation escalated in the second week of May when one student bravely shared her experience in an unofficial WhatsApp group composed solely of students.

This revelation prompted several other students to disclose similar disturbing encounters with the same professor.

A source close to the matter revealed that the professor allegedly made suggestions about awarding extra marks if students accepted his sexual advances. Following the initial complaints, the ICC initiated proceedings, calling several students to record their statements. The university subsequently entered a semester break, but discussions about the serious allegations resurfaced when classes resumed in mid-July.

The JNU administration has not yet responded to queries regarding the ongoing investigation.

This current incident, however, is not an isolated one for the university.

It follows a previous high-profile sexual harassment case last April, which led to the dismissal of four staff members, including a teaching faculty member, by JNU's executive council.

The repeated nature of such incidents raises significant concerns about campus safety and accountability at the institution.
